Gel X starts at $65 at US Nails, and that price includes the gel polish — it is not added on at the counter. Fills are $50, gel polish included there too.
What Gel X is
Gel X is a soft gel extension. Rather than sculpting a nail out of liquid and powder the way acrylic does, your tech bonds a pre-shaped soft gel tip to the whole nail plate with gel and cures it under a lamp.
Two things follow from that, and they are the reasons people ask for it by name. It is lighter and thinner than an acrylic set, so it does not feel like you are wearing something. And it looks like a natural nail — no visible ridge where a tip was glued on, because the tip covers the whole nail rather than just the end.
Gel X or acrylic — the honest comparison
Neither one wins. They are for different hands.
- Gel X, $65+ — lighter, more flexible, most natural-looking, and it soaks off cleanly. Choose it when you want length that does not announce itself, or when acrylic has felt heavy or thick on you before.
- Acrylic, $35+ — harder and more durable, and it starts $30 lower. Choose it for serious length, a strong sculpted shape, or if your hands take a beating at work. More on acrylic here.
Tell us what you do all day. That conversation decides it better than a price list does, and we would rather put you in the right one than the dearer one.
Gel X & hard gel prices
Starting prices — length, shape and design move the total, and you will hear the number before we start.
Why "includes gel polish" is worth reading twice
It is common for an extension price to be quoted bare and the colour added afterwards, so the number you were told is not the number you pay. Ours is not quoted that way. $65 for the set and $50 for the fill both include the gel polish. If you compare us against another price, compare like for like.
Removal, and why it is gentler
This is the practical advantage over acrylic. Soft gel dissolves in acetone, so a Gel X set is soaked off rather than filed or drilled down first. Less mechanical work on the nail plate means less thinning underneath.
That only holds if you let us do it. A Gel X set picked off at home comes away with layers of your own nail, exactly like acrylic would. Come in — it takes a few minutes.
What to expect when you come in
Bring a photo if you have a shape and length in mind, or describe it and we will show you what suits your hands. If you have worn acrylic for years and found it heavy, say so; Gel X is usually the answer to that complaint, and it is worth trying one set before deciding.
